Supporting a safer defence community

Defence Housing Australia’s dedicated team from the Wagga Wagga regional office is committed to providing quality housing and related services to Defence members and their families from nearby bases at Kapooka and RAAF Forest Hill.

‘Our staff live and work within this tight knit community and we take great pride in supporting our local military families,’ said DHA Property and Tenancy Manager, Isabelle Forbes.

Safety is always a priority and the DHA Property and Tenancy team is currently in the process of implementing a retrofit of security screens for all homes in the DHA property portfolio in Wagga Wagga.

‘This is an exciting project and involves fitting high quality security screens to just under 300 DHA managed homes in the region,’ Ms Forbes.

‘The retrofit has just commenced and we aum to have the screens installed with minimal disruption to tenants. This has been a project that requires considerable co-ordination and resources and we are pleased to be working with local tradespeople to get the work completed.’

‘DHA Wagga Wagga is committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of local defence families and we are pleased to be delivering these modifications.’

DHA supports regional defence families through a variety of community engagement initiatives each year. This year, DHA is sponsoring a new locally designed webpage to help defence spouses find work in the local area.

The Defence Spouse Employment Initiative is being created by Wagga-based design company Tag Publishing and involves the creation of a webpage to help connect local employers with defence spouses looking for work.

As part of the scheme, job vacancies for Defence spouses will be advertised at kapookachronicle.com.au/employment-opportunities/  and raafbasewagga.com.au/employment-opportunities/

‘We know that finding work in new posting locations is a major challenge for defence partners and can be a really difficult experience, especially when you are new to town and don’t have an established network of family or friends,’ said Ms Forbes.

‘DHA is proud to sponsor the Defence Spouse Employment Initiative and play our part in offering practical assistance to Defence families in our community.’
