AUSTRALIAN ARMY BAND KAPOOKA  – (AAB-K)

The Band has been kept busy these last few months supporting various events around communities in Wagga Wagga and the wider Riverina. In July, the band had the privilege of assisting with the launch of the Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour in West Wyalong NSW, where the Pep Band provided entertainment for a breakfast and public viewing of the Melbourne Cup itself; followed by the Marching Band leading the Cup through the main street of West Wyalong, presenting it to the local community.

Smaller ensembles from within the band have also been out and about amongst the community. The Acoustic Group were at Legacy House in August assisting with the Legacy Appeal Launch while the Saxophone Quartet and Brass Ensemble presented a lunchtime concert hosted by the Riverina Conservatorium of Music at the Uniting Church in Wagga Wagga. Also, the Pep Band geared up for their regular appearance at the Henty Field Day this year.

As always, the band continues its support of the Army Recruit Training Centre in the form of March Out Parades for both full-time and part-time graduating soldiers, with the band supporting various dining in nights and functions throughout the last few months. The band extended its support the RAAF Base Wagga for their annual Family Day and to the Army Logistics Training Centre for their Winter Ball this year.

The next few months promises to be jam-packed with the band performing all over. Some of our upcoming public performances include:

Sat 28 October:           Night of Knights Charity Ball

Sun 05 November:      Wangaratta Jazz Festival, and

Sun 17 December:       The Wagga Wagga Christmas Spectacular

Be sure to keep an eye (and an ear) out for the Australian Army Band Kapooka’s upcoming CD towards the end of the year. The CD will contain recordings of the Big Band plus a bonus CD of recordings from the Rock Band, Pep Band and Acoustic Group. This has been a major project of the band for most of the year and it promises to be an excellent product!
