Service to Help ADF Families Find Childcare

Defence families can now access an individual case management service to help them find childcare when they move to a new area or change their work or care arrangements.

Specialist early learning staff from Defence childcare service provider, Mission Australia Early Learning will work directly with families who need help to find appropriate childcare.

They will negotiate with all local registered childcare providers, including family day care and before and after school care. Parents are provided with detailed option that will allow them to decide which childcare service best suits their family.

The placement service is free. Normal childcare fees will apply for any options selected by families.

Members and their families can call the all-hours Defence Family Helpline on 1800 624 608 to discuss their needs. For more information visit defence.gov.au/dco

As the year comes to an end and I see lots of families getting ready to pack up in preparation for the next posting, it reminds me of what DCO can do for families on the move. As you move to a new location DCO can be a great source of information on what support is available in the local area and nationally. For example, DCO has information on education support in the form of Aides and Mentors in Primary and High Schools that  families can access to make the transition from one school to another a little easier. DCO also has important information on support to families who have special needs dependants within the family. Make sure when you get to your new location that you contact your local DCO to see what they can do to help your family settle in to your new posting locality. Good luck for the move!
