Australian Military Bank Shield 

The third of four AMB Shield Competitions for 2017 was held during August, with a big crowd turning out to both participate and support. The Fitness Competition was by far the most gruelling activity held during this years shield. It consisted of a team deadlift ladder, team workout (‘Leave No Trace’) and an individual chipper as well as some fun side events.

The lifting technique demonstrated by competitors during the deadlift ladder was exceptional and it was great to see so many people either finish it or set new PBs for themselves. The team workout was a gruelling affair which required teams to complete physically demanding tasks over several hundred metres, all the time carrying their equipment with them. Those team members that backed for the individual chipper earned the pure respect from the crowd for just being able to complete such a grinding afternoon. A huge amount of physical and mental attitude was displayed by all who took part.

In the end Delta Coy took the team honours with WO2 Tolman (TSC) winning the male chipper and LT Forner (Alpha) taking out the female chipper.

The 2017 AMB Shield will be decided on the 30th November, with the conduct of the
Tug-O-War competition deciding the final placings. The shield is still wide open at this stage!

Our Facilities and Classes

The inclusion of spouses into lunchtime circuit classes during 2017 has been a big success with a consistent group of partners taking advantage of the PTI lead sessions to improve their personal health and fitness. The lunchtime classes also afford staff an added opportunity to get some PT into their busy day. It has also been good to see spouses turn out for the monthly Uranquinty and Lake Albert runs, often with pooches in tow. Lunchtime classes are from 1200-1300 each week day at the gymnasium except for Tuesdays, which are at the track. These classes are not only a great way to improve your fitness, but also provide a good way to socialise and meet other people in the garrison. Good luck to those spouses leaving on posting, maintain the rage!

The Kapooka Gymnasium also offers awesome facilities for members and dependants to conduct training in their own time as well. The strength equipment situated on the gym floor is available for use between 0600-1600 each week day, when not in use by recruits. Also we have the two swimming pools the weights room, cardio room, boxing room and squash court. Opening times are:

SAT & SUN 1200 – 1800 1200 – 1700

Swipe card access is available to the gymnasium (less pool) from 0500-2300 each day.
